Update From WBE Canada President – August 2019

“When a father puts in long hours at work, he’s praised for being dedicated and ambitious. But when a mother stays late at the office, she’s sometimes accused of being selfish, neglecting her kids.” ~ Michelle Obama

It pains me to write that even today, in 2019, there is a double standard when it comes to entrepreneurship. Story after story of women showcasing dedication and hard work while being judged and disregarded proves that we haven’t arrived yet.

Today I want to express support to all the hardworking WBEs in our community who continue crashing the barriers and making a difference for those following in their footsteps. Know that your efforts are not going unnoticed. Keep up the great work! (And remember to reach out for help when needed.)

With the same breath I want to thank those in our community who choose to support women business owners and make a difference.

Our community of Corporate Members is still relatively small, yet I appreciate their commitment to changing the Canadian business landscape. Where some are waiting on the sidelines, our Corporate Members are fully in. Where others are testing the waters, our Corporate Members pulled up their sleeves and are continually improving their strategies.

Engaging WBEs in supply chains is just the tip of the iceberg. Our WBEs enjoy training, mentorship, connections, support and VIP invitations to closed door events – check our Events Calendar for more information.

Special acknowledgment goes to organizations that have continued to support WBE Canada since its humble beginnings – Accenture, BMO, IBM, Nokia, RBC and TELUS – THANK YOU for 10 years of supporting Canadian WBEs!

This month’s reminders:

I wish you a wonderful month and look forward to seeing you at some of our upcoming events!

Warmly,

Silvia Pencak
WBE Canada President
