WBE Story: Marte Belisle

Marte Belisle is Founder and President of SommEvents a company specializing in coordinating events and providing wine education. Marte helps companies with client retention strategies, team building and gifting programs using wine.

In 2016, Marte certified SommEvents with WBE Canada and since day one, she has been an integral part of the organization. She is well known to the WBE Community from her enthusiastic participation in WBE Canada Events and as a veteran leader of many WBE Meetups. Marte actively supports the WBE community through her engagement in the Supplier Advisory Committee offering her leadership experience to WBEs both long term and new. Most recently Marte took part in the Atlantic Canada Mentorship Program as a WBE Mentor.

WBE Canada’s Canadian Women Brand initiative is one that Marte has enthusiastically supported since its inception, promoting the important role CWB can play in the growth of women entrepreneurs in Canada. The Canadian Women Brand logo indicates that the product bearing the designation is not just “Made in Canada” but also “Made by a women-owned business”. Every purchase made helps support Canadian women-owned businesses and in turn, the Canadian economy at large.

Marte Belisle is the founder and owner of SommEvents, a company specializing in coordinating events and providing wine education. Her passion for wine began at a young age, and over the last three decades, she has traveled the world to study and learn about different wines. With formal training in wine education, Marte uses her expertise to help companies with client retention strategies through the use of wine. Based in Niagara, her knowledge of the region is extensive but she is also well-versed in other wine regions. Marte’s believes that SommEvents makes the perfect platform for her to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with clients.

In 2022 Marte Belisle was recognized for her support and engagement with WBE Canada and was the recipient of the WBE Leader Award at the annual WBE Canada Excellence Awards held during its National Conference in November. The WBE Leader award recognizes certified women-owned businesses that are actively engaged with the WBE Canada Community, significantly contributing to the growth and support of other women-owned businesses. Marte’s enthusiastic use of Canadian Women Brand and her commitment to furthering the awareness of women-owned businesses and why it is important to purchase goods and services bearing the CWB logo makes her the perfect role model for all women entrepreneurs.
