Corporate Member Story: Canada Post

Canada Post became a WBE Canada Corporate member in 2021, and immediately began developing their supplier diversity program by first understanding what level of diversity they already had in their existing supplier base. As Canada’s largest retail network, they had a list of approximately 9,000 suppliers so the first step was to compare that list with the list of diverse suppliers available from WBE Canada, as well as other supplier diversity councils. The result was an immediate analysis of where their strengths. as well as the gaps, lay and where the opportunities exist for growing their diverse supplier base.

Canada Post was a finalist in the category of Most Improved Supplier Diversity Program at WBE Canada’s 2022 Excellence Awards. In just one year, developing their data analytics, they were able to complete their baseline and identify their supply chain needs in terms of diverse suppliers. They are also working with WBE Canada, utilizing its resources and programs to give suppliers the tools they need so they are ready to meet the crown corporation’s expectations and opportunities. As a result, Canada Post is already looking at a 3 and 5 year plan to fully develop and grow their Supplier Diversity Program.

“My advice is to start from a granular level, understanding who your existing suppliers are, which ones are diverse and going from there”
