WBE Canada Welcomes SaskPower as a New Corporate Member

Welcoming our New Corporate Member-SaskPower

Women Business Enterprises Canada Council (WBE Canada) is excited to announce SaskPower as one of its newest Corporate Members adding to the growing number of corporate and government members in the Energy sector that support Canadian women-owned businesses through their supplier diversity programs and membership with WBE Canada.

Headquartered in Regina, SK, Saskatchewan Power Corporation, operating as SaskPower, is the principal electric utility in Saskatchewan, Canada operating one of Canada’s largest grids with a mission to deliver reliable, sustainable and cost-effective power.

In August 2020, SaskPower expanded its supplier diversity and inclusion business practices, key to its procurement strategy and central to helping communities in the province. Including women-owned businesses provides opportunities for women to access SaskPower’s supply chains and promotes sourcing of services and goods from high performing diverse suppliers. These efforts create a culture of gender equality in its procurement processes and support SaskPower’s sustainability goals. SaskPower firmly believes in advancing women entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan and will continue to look for opportunities to enhance participation of diverse suppliers.

“SaskPower is committed to enabling diversity in our supply chain,” said Rhea Brown, SaskPower Executive Vice President of Customer Experience & Procurement. “We are in the midst of a clean energy transition and women-owned businesses have a key role in helping us advance and make progress, fundamentally and ongoing; WBE’s work to enable women-owned business is incredibly important, and I’m excited for SaskPower to be a part of this.”

“We are excited to welcome SaskPower as the first organization in Saskatchewan to join WBE Canada’s Corporate Membership,” said Silvia Pencak, President and CEO, WBE Canada. “SaskPower’s commitment to supplier diversity is already well established amongst the province’s indigenous diverse supplier community and their decision to expand this strategy to women-owned businesses creates unprecedented opportunities for women-owned businesses in Saskatchewan. We look forward to partnering with SaskPower to develop and scale up women-owned businesses, capable of supporting Saskatchewan’s energy sector.”
